Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Policy Manager is responsible for developing and advancing the company’s federal, state, and local policy priorities, with a particular focus on the intersection of energy, transportation, and land use. This role is crucial to the company’s ability to create a policy environment that enables rapid deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in dense urban areas.
Candidate Requirements
- Demonstrated interest in the mission, vision, and values of it’s electric
- Experience in public policy or government affairs, particularly in the energy, transportation, or clean tech sectors
- Familiarity with electric vehicle technologies and infrastructure, as well as related legislation and funding mechanisms.
- Experience working with or in government at the federal, state, and/or local level.
- Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process and the ability to navigate the complexity of multiple jurisdictions over varying timelines
- Excellent and persuasive writing skills, with attention to detail, ability to tailor materials to specific audiences, and limited need for editing and input
- Strong public speaking skills, with the ability to be technically precise while providing broader context and vision
- Ability to work with autonomy, clarity, and precision to respond to multiple deadlines without sacrificing quality
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject area, including but not limited to political science, policy analysis, public administration, economics, and environmental policy
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience. A Master’s Degree in a relevant field may substitute for two (2) years experience
- Previous experience at an early-stage start-up is preferred
- Fluency in Google Workspace, Slack, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, CRM/database platforms, and willingness to learn additional applications.
Role Requirements:
- Work closely across teams to identify potential challenges (and opportunities) for the company’s growth, especially as we enter new markets. Craft and execute strategies to solve challenges and capitalize on opportunities.
- Create and submit materials to policymaking officials at all levels of government. Examples include:
- Responses to Requests for Information about EVSE standards
- Stakeholder letters in response to Public Utility Commission dockets
- Written and oral comments for testimony as it relates to legislative and regulatory hearings
- Policy-related talking points mapped to media, elected officials, and industry groups
- Memos to city partners, outlining it’s electric’s position and recommendations on local issues
- Leave-behinds for policy audiences during lobby days
- Participate in industry groups and trade associations as assigned to keep abreast of policy trends and opportunities to engage, and keep leadership apprised as necessary.
- Present to local stakeholder groups and community groups
- Develop and maintain policy tracker to keep company staff and investors apprised of activities and potential impacts to company’s ability to deploy
- Provide administrative support and issue area expertise to local lobbyists who represent it’s electric
- Track and ensure compliance on all lobbying obligations for the company
Salary
Salary range is $80k-$160k, depending on length and relevance of candidate’s experience. Qualified candidates will be offered a salary according to the following guidelines, with final salary determined by relevant experience in this space:
- $80-90k: Minimum 2 years of experience
- $90-110k: 3-5 years experience
- $110-$130k: Minimum 5 years of experience
- $130-$140k: Between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience
- $140-$150k: Between 5 and 10 years of relevant experience and Masters Degree
- $150k-$160k: 10+ years of relevant experience and Master’s Degree
